Come Meet Barry Freidman!

The Pendleton Home Store is excited to announce a visit from our good friend Barry Friedman next week.  For those of you who have not met Barry, you are in for a treat.  Barry is an expert on Pendleton and Trade blankets having written the book Chasing Rainbows many years ago.  With Still Chasing Rainbows, Barry updates us on all things Trade blankets.  We are excited to hear about his time with Dale Chihuly who has one of the most incredible collections of blankets.  Barry was also able to track down many new collectors and has images of never before seen blankets in his new book.

So come and see us and meet Barry.  And if you have a Pendleton Trade blanket that you would like to learn more about, please bring it and Barry will have a look.  He will also be signing books which will be available for sale at the event.

Friday Street Style

We ran into Liz last night, carrying her lovely Pendleton bag. She's new to the city and already making a style mark.

Thanks for being our newest fashion star, Liz!

Homemade Gin Kit

The Homemade Gin Kit has arrived in the Home Store! Summer feels that much closer when you have an infusing project on deck. The kit gives you all the hardware (and yummy juniper and botanical infusers) you need to make 2 bottles of gin. Father's Day gift anyone?

Jason (Home Store employee) promises to give us his detailed review soon, which we'll add to the comment section. We'd love to hear from you too! Feel free to post those secret recipes :).

Happy Graduation

Frances with Raven and the
Box of Knowledge
Graduation time is upon us!

Frances (Home Store employee Sarah's daughter) graduated High School this year and we wish her all the best as she continues her education in the fall.

Her blanket contains imagery from the legend Raven and the Box of Knowledge. In the story, Raven steals the sun which symbolizes enlightenment. It's a perfect message for this year's grads: keep seeking out new information.

Congratulations, graduates!

Fashioning Cascadia

Pendleton is sponsoring a new exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Craft, Fashioning Cascadia: The Social Life of the Garment, that features a number of regional clothing designers (as well as a few of Pendleton's lovely coats and capes!). The show is up now through October 11th so make sure to stop by!

The exhibit is striking, bringing together a broad range of styles and designer aesthetics. The concept behind the show is honorable as well. It is, in part, a call-to-action for "unfashionable" clothing—heirloom garments that will stand the test of time, that can be repaired or upcycled and that have a responsible environmental impact. As Sarah Margolis-Pineo, Fashioning Cascadia's curator, says,

"It is by taking a closer look at the craft of clothing that Fashioning Cascadia seeks to reconnect us with our own sense of fashion, compelling us to consider the meaning that evolves from what we wear and how we wear it every day."

Over the next few months, MOCC is featuring various workshops and artist talks related to the exhibition. Visit their website for dates and event details.

Also on the website is an essay by Jacqueline Keeler about her personal connection to Pendleton Woolen Mills. (Check the Writings section).

We'd love to hear your thoughts on the exhibition! What does being "unfashionable" mean to you?
