Sidewalk Sale 2011

I don't normally endorse the usage of the word ginormous, but it seems that this is the only word I can find to describe the annual sidewalk sale that will be going on at Pendleton Home this weekend.

As local Portlanders know, there is a huge art show every Labor Day weekend in the Pearl called Art in the Pearl. And since we are so close, we thought we would take advantage of the thousands of people that will be in the neighborhood and hold a sidewalk sale every year. We are in our fifth year now and it keeps getting bigger and better.

It seems I have gone a little crazy and ordered in way too many Home Division close-outs, but hey, this is to your advantage! We will have previous season home accessories, sample blankets, close-out blankets, bed skirts, pillow shams...and so, so much more.

Portland Fashion's Night Out 2011

Portland's Design Star Visits the Home Store

Local Portland girl and last year's Design Star winner, Emily Henderson, took time out last week to visit Pendleton Woolen Mills and the Home Store.

Emily was my favorite for the 2010 season and I'm so happy she came to visit the store. Unfortunately, I was in NY for the Gift Show!

One of her favorite bedding collections in the store was Taos Ikat. We should have guessed since she loves blue and incorporates it in many of her designs.

Our colorful Native style baskets caught her eye as well.

The Crow Creek quilt design was another favorite of hers.

Emily immediately recognized our classic motors robes being a Portland girl herself!

If you are not familiar with Emily, check out her HGTV show "Secrets from a Stylist". You never know, some Pendleton Home may just turn up on it.

Everything's Rosa

It looks like our Rosa Valley blanket turned up on Design Sponge in an article about styling vintage rooms.

The inspiration for this color palette was taken straight from the runway as well as our love for Chanel. And it fits in great with this vintage look or in today's contemporary decor as well.

When I arrived to work last Thursday, this cute little Porsche and it's owner were waiting for the store to open.

I had to get a picture of it with the Crow Tribal Seal.

Steve is an honorary member of the Crow tribe after working as an educator with the tribe in Montana for many years. He was visiting the Home Store to pick up a gift for a tribal meeting that he was heading to. He chose our newest Park blanket, the Yellowstone for his gift. I thought this was a great choice as it coordinated so perfectly with his car!

One of the many things I love about working for Pendleton and specifically the Home Store, is that we get to meet so many great people. It's rare to meet someone in the store who doesn't have their own Pendleton story and we really enjoy hearing each and every one of them.

The history of Pendleton really does weave each of our lives together.

Opening Ceremony Event

This past Thursday, Pendleton Home hosted another successful Opening Ceremony Sample Sale.

The racks and appetizers were ready for the shopping to begin.

There was even a platter of Opening Ceremony socks and bandanas!

The staff was on-hand to help our shoppers choose just the right clothing. Here, Gerrie helps Chad with the fit.

Guests had fun discovering all of the great products we offer in the Home Store.

But The Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony clothing got most of the attention this night. Portlanders know this is a great sale and you've got to get here early.

Two of our guests found our beautiful jacquard towels over in the corner and chose one of the Canyonland designs.

We even had a couple of sale racks which made shoppers very happy.

How cute does this cotton "snakeskin" dress look on her?

Kjirsten even modeled a bandana for us.

Joanne found a score over on the sale rack. Alas, it was too big for her, so it didn't get snapped up this time.

Flea Bag!

I know that I have mentioned Flea Bags before but we just received some new ones in so I thought I would take this opportunity to remind you just how wonderful these bags are.

Flea Bags are made by Alex and Shira in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They are the sweetest girls and an absolute joy to work with. I can't wait to go and visit their workshop in August when I'm in NY.

Each Flea Bag is a handmade, numbered limited edition. They are very sturdy and stay shut. And they are lined with the cutest grey ticking. They retail for $420.00

We currently have three in stock. Espresso is not shown but has a very dark, almost black base. In the fall, we will receive in their new styles and let me tell you, I die!

More Opening Ceremony!

Yes, that's right. You heard it here first. Pendleton Home has just received in 280 units of the Spring 2011 Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony collaboration.

The sale will begin the morning of July 7th and will run through the 16th. Additionally, we will be open late for First Thursday on the 7th.

Yesterday on Design Sponge, I came across one of my all time favorite Pendleton blankets, the Banded Stripe in olive.

This is the first blanket I bought after a started working for Pendleton and I still have it displayed in my home. I really love how it is the focal point of this room, just a beautifully minimal bed with a beautiful blanket. What more do you need?

Sadly this one is no longer available so if you come across one, grab it!

Today while browsing one of our favorite design sites Design Sponge, we spotted our lovely Silver Bark blanket at the foot of the bed. We love this blanket for it's beautiful design taken from our archives as well as the soft color palette that is very rare for a Pendleton blanket.

Tatine Candles Are Here At Last!

Oh my gosh! We are so excited to finally have our shipment of Tatine Candles in the store now. If you are not yet familiar with Tatine, you are going to die when you smell these incredible candles.

Tatine Candles are hand-crafted by Margo, a music loving artist with amazing style in her warehouse loft in Chicago.

Her newest line is the Tisane votive candles and they retail for $14 each, which is a great price. They come in the nicest recycled glass votives. I can't decide which scent I like the best, they are all sooo good. Field of Grass is a subtle scent of fresh cut grass and daisies...love.

Oh, but then there is Love That Burns, a mix of earth, rose and lemons. Sigh!

But St. John's Wood is amazing too! How Margo managed to make a candle smell so much like a smoldering fire, I have no idea. This one is chimney smoke, vines and brick walls in a glass (her words, not mine!).

And Bron Yr Aur seems to be custom designed for Portland, a mix of raindrops and moss.

Then there is Holland Park with the scent of leaves, rain and the musky moon.

In the background are her beeswax Cathedral tapers, a set of six that sells for $44.00. I can't wait to try these out at home.

Next is her restaurant themed collection of Ambient candles. These are $30.00 for a set of three cubes in glass votives. Crushed Mint is like smelling a fresh mojito.

Here is the fresh scent of a lemon drop in the Lemon Verbena.

Lime Cilantro is definitely my favorite. Great, now I'm hungry for some good Mexican food!

And who doesn't love the smell of Balsamic?

Her Pure Beeswax candles are so nice, too. They don't smell overly beeswaxy (is that a word?). These come in Mandarin Red, Lavender Barreme, Lemon Sage, Orange Sanguine and Citron Vert and retail for $26.00.

The Bistro Cubes are just simple beeswax candles. Rhonda, our sales associate has already tried them out and loves the way they burn. Very slow with no drips! These sell as a set of four for $22.00.

Patch NYC

One thing about living in the northwest is that it is very conducive to candle burning. We love our candles up here!

The dark cloudy weather is still looming over us so there is nothing better at night than starting a fire and lighting a nice scented candle to sit and enjoy the evening by. Here is one of our favorite candle lines called Patch NYC.

Patch NYC is actually an antique store and wholesaler out of Boston. Proprietor's Don Carney and John Ross hand pick the intriguing objects that go into their store and then Don, who is an artist hangs his original prints on the walls.

Patch NYC joined forces with the lovely ladies of The Soap & Paper Factory and created a line of soy candles adorned with Don's artwork on the votives and the packaging.

The Pendleton Home Charcoal Lumberman was featured in a great spread in the May issue of Elle Decor.

We especially love the rich charcoal color of this blanket and it lends the perfect touch to this contemporary room.

There is nothing better than getting our name out there in editorial spreads. This article was really nice because it gave credit to us and the other lines featured like our friends at Design Within Reach and Ralph Lauren.

Spring is here...finally!

It pretty much poured cats and dogs in Portland for the month of March so we welcome the few sunny days we have already had now in April. In honor of the arrival of sun, Pendleton Home has prepared our rooms with our new spring bedding and accessories. So for those of you who can't visit the Home Store here is a tour of our newest rooms.

Rhonda put together these nice bright windows full of Pendleton Home products and the new spring line from Spanish company Desigual

Here is our living room brightened up with pops of color. The beautiful pillows are from Oaxaca but they go perfectly with an Indian kilim rug.

One of my favorite rooms has the new Taos Ikat bedding collection and pays tribute to Millicent Rogers. Millicent was a Standard Oil heiress who moved to Taos in the 30s and acquired an amazing collection of Ikat and Chimayo rugs, Maria Martinez pottery and the most turquoise and sterling silver jewelry I have ever seen in one place.

When I saw this Navajo Indian couple in Denver in September, I knew I had to have them for this room. Don't they look great with our bedding?

Nambe is the perfect accent to Millicent's room.

And look at how perfectly our own Lakota dinnerware fits in!

This is what I thought Millicent's closet would look like. I love how Tasha Polizzi's apparel collection fits in with our bedding.

And across the way from Millicent, is a room inspired by her good friend Georgia O'Keefe. Here we used our new Rosa Valley bedding collection to set the theme of the room. The blush, tans and blacks remind me of the landscape near Georgia's home in Abiquiqu, New Mexico.

A few accessories we found that fit into the room like the Votivo Forgotten Sage candle, Canyons and Deserts coffee table book and Tasha's serape shirt.

And here, Tasha's beautiful apparel complements the bedding just as we had hoped.

Around the corner is our Sky City bedding collection. The inspiration for this design was taken from the pottery made by the Acoma Pueblo Indians. This collection is so cool, you really need to see it in person, it's so much fun.

We even have a collection of hand painted pots from the Acoma Pueblo.

We just love this big pot with the turquoise trim. The Storyteller doll in the photo is a piece of Navajo pottery.

And in our "outdoor" room, we were inspired by oceanside homes on the east coast such as Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Our Riata blanket has a rope theme for the design and we mixed in some tartan which tied it all together...ha ha!

Of course we had to move our largest piece of furniture clear across the store to work with the white-washed theme of the room. The breakfront is home to our new Munio Candela line.

And a little vignette inspired by the colors of seaglass.

And you know we must have a little pirate action going on in the room...arrrgh!

In the center of the store is our own tribute to Frida Kahlo. The Soap & Paper Factory's candle and soap collection are so pretty in this room. As well as the dresser made by Rick and Denise Pratt of Around the Bend.

The kid's room was inspired by our days at summer camp. This is one of our newer park blankets, the Yellowstone (or Jellystone as we like to call it) featured with our brand new Glacier 5th Avenue throw.

Portlanders love our Farmer's Markets so here we did our own version of a little market. We have Votivo candles in scents like fresh tomato and Tuscan olive as well as my favorite, blackberry basil...yum!

And don't forget our new market tote, hand made by Alex and Shira of Flea Bags. These bags are absolutely beautiful, lined with blue and white ticking and each are numbered limited editions.

Munio Candela

When I was in New York for the Gift Show, I popped into ABC Carpet and Home to check out their product lines. This is a stop I always make when in New York, as ABC is the mecca of all things home furnishings. I always come away with some inspiration for Pendleton Home.

One of the first product lines that I came across was a candle line called Munio Candela. I loved their great packaging and amazing scents. I looked at the product, then walked the rest of the store and then back to the product on my way out. As I was looking at it again, I noticed that the box said "Handmade in Oregon". Well that was it, I knew we needed some of this for our store. I bought a box of their rounds and called them as soon as I got home.

And now it's here! We have the rounds which are little round discs and scented with various herbs. Oh they smell so nice but I especially love the lavender and olive scent. These can be used like potpourri in a bowl or can be burned in a dish heated by a tea light. They are a great housewarming gift item and only $10.00

The Naturella candle is a soy candle filled with wild flowers. As it burns down, the wild flowers start to glow and they are so pretty. The rose buds and moss smell amazing. $26.00

And the Jar style is incredible too. They are filled with scented soy candles and have a wooden wick. There is something about the wick that allows it to burn slowly and evenly. There is no wax hanging out on the side of the jar. Our favorite scent so far is the black magic. $24.00

They also make these great handmade soaps that come in cute little muslin envelopes and sell for $12.00. The purple haze scent is to-die-for!

Winter in Portland

As I've mentioned before, we get a lot of very hip and stylish people walking in our doors. Two weeks ago, it was this gentleman, Winter Wood, who was up from Arizona auditioning for The Amazing Race. If there was ever a quintessential Young Pendleton clientele, Winter is the face of that demographic! We love his traditional style with a rock star edge.

How cool is that tee shirt?

Oh, and how great he looks in the Vans by Taka Hayashi.

Here's a close-up. Now don't you wish you had gotten your Vans before they all sold out? Luckily, we had just the right size when Winter stopped in.

And while sadly, he did not make it in time to his audition, we can't wait to hear of all the great things that Winter accomplishes.

Motor Robe Coat

Here at Pendleton Home, we have a lot of great, fashionable shoppers. We see so many amazing outfits come in our doors and if I think of it, I try to get pictures. This one I had to capture because it's one of our vintage motor robes that someone has turned into a coat.

This is Nicole of House of Leaves and she stops in to see us periodically. I always love the way she mixes old with new and masculine with feminine. She is the quintessential stylish Portland girl.

Look at the back detail of the coat. It's just too cute! Nicole said that she found this piece at Buffalo Exchange on Hawthorne. What a great find and it goes so perfect with Nicole's style.

We found so many great new products at the New York Gift show this January. Keep an eye on Pendleton Home, as we will be receiving in a lot of these new products in February and March in preparation for our Spring floor set.

Remember the late '80s early '90s hit television show thirtysomething? It was one of my favorites during college. My favorite character on the show was Melissa, the single funky artsy girl. I especially loved her loft, and to this day want to live in one just like it.

Well, nowdays, amongst many other projects, the actress Melanie Mayron has her own product line called Mayron's Goods.

Mayron's Goods is a skin care line for babies and adults both. Her father is a brilliant chemist and she went to him for help after having her own kids and was unable to find the products that she wanted for them. Mayron's Goods are all natural, organic products that are great for babies and adults as well.

I've called in my fabulous graphic design friend Alissa Beddow to save the day. We hope to have these changes up by next week.

Sunday Style

It seems that my coworker and I were caught by the New York Sunday Times walking down Madison Avenue (thank goodness we were working). I'm sure we were quite the spectacle in our very bright Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony coats. As you know, New Yorkers generally favor black as their main wardrobe staple so it was fun to see some of the brighter colors represented on the street.

We are in the first photo on the upper left and then I am in the fourth photo over. Also, the third photo from the right on the bottom row features a cloak by Lindsey Thornburg made from Pendleton's Prairie Flower fabric.

The Pendleton/Portland style was very apparent while we were in New York. We saw a ton of plaids and various versions of "The Dude" sweater, often times worn together. Yeah Portlandia!

Hi everyone, it's Shelly here. I apologize for the lack of posts lately but it's been quite a whirlwind here at Pendleton Home. We finished out the holiday season with a bang. Thank you so much to you, our loyal friends.

January has been crazy, as it's generally show time. We've been at Atlanta market, Pendleton showed at Maison Objet in Paris for the very first time, and now we're hanging out in snowy New York. We've received so much positive response and we're excited for the new year. I've found so many great new lines and can't wait to get them in our store in Portland.

My New Year's resolution is to get the little blog updated more frequently so those of you that can't make it to Portland can still visit our one and only Home Store...virtually.

We just never know what to expect here at the Pendleton Home Store. First thing this morning we were visited by the very handsome actor, Sam Elliott. It's rare that we get starstruck here in the store but he's pretty fabulous.

I was running around like crazy trying to find my issue of Cowboys and Indians with him on the cover but alas could not find it before he left. Sigh...maybe next time.

And then the very beautiful chanteuse Diane Birch stopped in to do a little shopping. She is a big fan of Pendleton and we are big fans of her as well.

She shared some photos of her apartment in New York, complete with Pendleton decor.

She's in town visiting her family for the holidays. We hope she comes back to Portland very soon on tour.

Native Stones

This past weekend in The Wall Street Journal, there was a terrific article called "Romancing The Stone."

The article was about the return of the Native American jewelry trend and the influence Millicent Rogers, an east coast socialite turned New Mexican resident a la Georgia O'Keefe, had on the start of this jewelry trend many, many years ago.

Millicent was foremost a friend to the Native Americans of the Taos Pueblo and second, a collector of their crafts. It is said that when she died, the Taos Pueblo had a grand honoring of her because of the amazing friendship she shared with the residents of the Pueblo.

Millicent has been a big influence on us here at the Pendleton Home Store, both for her love and respect of the Native Americans and their arts, as well as her fashion sense.

If you are ever in the Taos area, you MUST visit the Millicent Rogers Museum.

I'm not sure if you, our loyal readers are aware of this but the Pendleton Home Store not only carries our own beautiful women's wear designs but we also carry clothing from many other great clothing companies. Like for instance, this "Easy Rider" inspired ensemble from Double D Ranch Wear. They are really turning out some great designs lately. We really love all of their bohemian collections as of late.

Pendleton Home has just finished our Spring floor set and wow, this is one of our favorites yet. Here is my favorite room I like to call "romantic ranch".

What I love most about this room is how unique it is due to it's hand-made quality.

The beautiful bed is made by Dryad's Dancing Furniture out of Atlanta, Georgia. I love this one in the "whites" palette but you can also order it in other colors. The picture frames are also made by Dryad's out of recycled trim.

The bedding featured on the bed is by one of our favorite artists, Tasha Polizzi. The bedding is hand-sewn in her workshop in the Berkshires of Massachusetts.

Also featured on the bed is this great sepia print pillow by Archival Decor which is really hot in the press right now. This one called Antlers is my favorite.

Look at the sweet detail of the hand-made Tasha Polizzi toss pillow. I love the little pocket. Store Associate Mimi thinks this is the perfect place for your remote control!

Last week, Pendleton Home was invited to decorate the penthouse of the new Indigo building. The Indigo 12 West is a beautiful, new cutting edge condominiun building in Southwest Portland. Here are some of the after shots.

Dryad's Dancing Nightstand

Hi there, Shelly from the Pendleton Home Store here. I apologize for the lack of posts recently but we have been knee deep in new product preparing for the new fall rooms and the holiday season.

Twice a year the Home Store re-sets our floor with new Pendleton and outside vendor product and we have just completed the Fall set. I'm so excited to show you some of the new items we have in the Pendleton Home Store.

The first item I would like to feature is the Dryad's Dancing bed. This bed is made of hand-cut pieces of wood laid out into a patchwork pattern. This bed has clean, minimalist lines and is edged with patina finished steel. This bed is made to order with some flexibility in the colors and finish. It retails for $1925.00 and will be shipped directly to your home.

Concho Belt

This is a Native American concho belt purchased in Gallup, New Mexico from a pawn dealer. the total length of the leather is 38 inches long. The buckle measures 3.25"X2.5", the oval conchos measure 2.5"X2.5" and the rectangular conchos measure 2.5"X1". It is sterling silver and turquoise. The back is not stamped but is signed H. Charlie. The pawn ticket says Butler's Gallup, New Mexico.
